Back in April of 2014, FIA confirmed that Gene Haas had been granted entry for the 2015 Formula One season, but the American owner made the surprising decision to defer participation for another year. When next month’s pre-season testing begins in Barcelona, the nearly two-year build-up to the first American Formula One team to compete since the 1986 season will finally come to an end. While Gene Haas has stated that he has had more than enough time to prepare for his debut, he wanted to make sure his team could hit the ground running with the competition right from the start.
The Haas F1 Team stands apart from the rest of the team’s competing in Formula One for far more reasons than simply being American. The long buildup gave Gene Haas and his team more time to prepare for their debut so as to attempt and avoid the trap many new teams fall into of falling behind the competition due to inexperience. This extra time was crucial to the Haas team as, unlike other start-up teams, they were starting from scratch. Often times, new Formula One teams simply buy another team that already has all the infrastructure in place to start, but the Haas F1 Team had to put everything together from the start.
The new Haas F1 Team team could prove to be an entry point for American car enthusiasts who are interested in Formula One racing but aren’t familiar with the sport.
