Enzo Ferrari Film Loses Lead Actor

According to director, Michael Mann, the prospect of an Enzo Ferrari biopic is something he has been working on for 15 years and it was only now, with a proper script and the right actor that he decided to go ahead and get it done. Unfortunately for the acclaimed director, it looks like his project is going to stall a little bit longer as Christian Bale announced recently that he has dropped out of the project.

When news broke that Academy Award-winning actor, Christian Bale would star as a young, Enzo Ferrari in Michael Mann’s latest film, fans were elated to see the exciting life of Mr. Ferrari himself brought to the big screen. According to director, Michael Mann, the prospect of an Enzo Ferrari biopic is something he has been working on for 15 years and it was only now, with a proper script and the right actor that he decided to go ahead and get it done. Unfortunately for the acclaimed director, it looks like his project is going to stall a little bit longer as lead actor Christian Bale announced recently that he has dropped out of the project's title role.

The English actor bowed out of his role as Enzo Ferrari, citing concerns over the unhealthy weight gain required to play the role. Fans of Bale will surely find this surprising as the actor is well known to drastically fluctuate his weight for his film roles. In his Academy Award-winning role as a drug-addicted boxer, Dicky Ecklund, Bale shed a drastic amount of weight, which he claimed was easy for him due to his experience working on the 2003 film, The Machinist. More impressively, after dropping a shocking 63 pounds for his role in The Machinist, Bale quickly turned around and added over 100 pounds of muscle for his role in the first part of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy.

Even with the setback of losing his lead actor, Michael Mann claims he is determined to find a replacement and stay on schedule. With so many fans of the Ferrari brand looking forward to the film, Mann will need to act fast if he wants to go on with his plan of shooting this coming spring.
