Back in the summer of 2001, Universal Pictures released a film that would go on to spawn the biggest film franchise in the studio’s illustrious history. The Fast and the Furious (2001) was a huge financial success and just a short 15 years later, an eighth film in the series looks to be underway. With the seventh film in the series being one of the most financially successful films in history, the pressure is on both the cast and crew to make the eighth film, tentatively titled Fast 8, even bigger than before.
With Furious 7 being as big as it was, it’s somewhat surprising to see acclaimed director, James Wan, not returning to the project. Fans can rest assured that they’re in good hands as F. Gary Gray of Straight Outta Compton fame steps into the director’s chair of the high-speed franchise. As far as plot details go, not much is known at this point other than lead actor Vin Diesel is set to return alongside Tyrese Gibson, Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham.
As for new faces, the big rumor circling around Hollywood is that Academy Award-winning actress Charlize Theron would be joining the gang in a villainous role. Not much is known about Theron’s role as she is yet to officially sign on or even see the script, but it would be interesting to see the talented actress take on Dominic Toretto and his gang.
If there’s one thing we can count on for Fast 8, it’s that we’re sure to see more than a handful of sleek cars driving at high speeds.
