But who is the fastest in the world?
- SSC Ultimate Aero
Back in 2007, the SSC Ultimate Aero set the record for fastest car in production, hitting the impressive speed of 256.14mph on a public highway in Washington. It held onto this title for three years until 2010.
The SSC Ultimate Aero is equipped with a twin-turbo V8 engine capable of putting out 1,300 horsepower and 1,004 lb-ft of torque. This grants the car a theoretical top speed of 273mph, but in testing it only ever reached 253mph.
2. Rimac Concept Two
The Concept Two, Rimac’s hypercard EV, produces an insane 1,914 horsepower. It has a top speed of 258 mph, making it faster than even Tesla’s roadster generation of EV. This shadowy speed-demon can accelerate from zero to sixty miles per house in just 1.85 seconds.
3. Bugatti Veyron Super Sport
The Bugatti Veyron Super Sport is a machine like no other. In the year of its market launch, the Veyron set a speed record for street cars and became the fastest super sportscar in production. With 1,200 horsepower and a maximum torque of 1,500 Nm, the Veyron has an acceleration from 0 to 60mph of 2.5 seconds.
As of 2019, the Very n16.4 Sure Sport is completely sold out.
4. Hennessy Venom GT
In 2014, the Hennessy Venom GT was the dominating car for speed in all the world. The GT set the record for speed at the Kennedy Space Center on a Space Shuttle landing runway, and it reached a max speed of 270.49 miles per hour.
This carbon-bodied aluminum-chassis supercar has a 7.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine which enables it to accelerate from 0 to 60mph in just a mere 2.7 seconds.
5. Koenigsegg Agera RS
Koenigsegg boasts the capability to reach 277.87mph and has beat five new world records because of it. The previous holder of the record for highest speed in a production vehicle was the Bugatti Veyron, as described above.
As far as fastest supercars go, the title still remains in Koenigsegg’s possession. This outrageously fast supercar has a 0-60mph of 2.8 seconds. Inside lies a 2.7-liter V8 engine with twin-turbochargers, the mechanics which make this car so quick.
6. SSC Tuatara
This French Super Sport held the record for fastest supercar on the market in 2007. Years later, and while the current speed record owner is Koenigsegg Agera RS, the Tuatara is making plans to pass the 300mph benchmark.
The 2019 make of the SSC Tuatara utilizes a 5.9-liter V8 engine able to accelerate the car from 0 to 60mph in just 2.5 seconds. The coupe has an exotic, aerodynamic body with a sleek, unique profile. There is no other car like it.
7. Hennessy Venom F5
The Hennessy team has done it again. The company’s all-new Venom F5 is a beautiful work of machinery built for speed, for power, and for exoticism. The Venom F5 is able to produce 1,817 horsepower and 1,193 lb-feet of torque with its 6.6-liter V8 engine.
The name of the car, F5, is a reference to the F5 tornado, which is the highest rating for a tornado according to the Fujita scale. Upon announcing the car, Hennessy predicted a top speed of about 311 miles per hour, however we won’t know until we get to drive it ourselves.
8. Tesla Roadster
The Tesla Roadster can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just under 2 seconds, making it the quickest to accelerate. It has a top speed exceeding 250 mph, and a battery which allows it to travel 620 miles before full discharge.
The Tesla Roadster may not hold the title as the fastest car in production- but it sure is quick. The design of this all-electric supercar maximizes potential in terms of aerodynamic engineering, allowing for incredible speeds to be reached incredibly quickly.
