British test driver Andy Wallace broke the 300mph barrier on Volkswagon’s Ehra-Lessien test track, reaching a v-max of 304.77 miles per hour. Not only is this supercar insanely fast, but it is also the first supercar to be able to exceed 300mph.
An aerodynamic evolution of Bugatti’s Chiron was designed to assist in cresting that 300mph mark, with an extension made of carbon fiber and a body of lightweight composite material. The Chiron that was responsible for crushing previous supercar speed records is equipped special Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires
capable of rotating 4,100 times per minute.

According to Top Gear, this modified super-Chiron will probably come into production as a Super Sport model. It is unclear whether or not the road-model Chiron will be able to hit 300mph. Regardless, this sleek speed-demon has certainly established a new, impressive benchmark. Now holding the title as creators of the world’s fastest supercar, it will be interesting to see what Bugatti does next. They’ve since implied that they will withdraw from the competition to produce the fastest serial production cars.
As said by company boss Stephan Winkelmann said in a statement, “We have shown several times that we build the fastest cars in the world. In the future, we will focus on other areas.”
