The 2015 Los Angeles auto show has come and gone and even though Lamborghini lacked a stand at the main event, it still managed to leave a lasting impression on everyone that attended. Days before the auto show, the Italian exotic car juggernaut unveiled its latest and most affordable version of its popular Huracan model. The 2016 Lamborghini Huracan LP 580-2 earned its name from the 580 horsepower it's packing in its 5.2L engine and its return to the classic, rear wheel drive layout that Lamborghini enthusiasts are sure to drool over.
At a glance, the uninformed may look at these numbers and wonder why a company renowned for producing some of the most obnoxiously powerful cars around would choose to decrease the amount of horsepower in their latest Huracan.
Quite simply, the new Huracan sits lighter and moves faster. To compensate for the lighter model, the team at Lamborghini redesigned the front end of the Huracan to produce additional downforce for better control. Even better, the 2016 Huracan features a revised Sport mode, which will allow for “sporty and emotional driving fun with slight oversteering behavior.”
Say what you will about the reduced power output, but even the most horsepower-obsessed fanatics can agree that it’s great to have a rear-wheel drive Lamborghini back in production. As fun as their ventures into the world of all-wheel drive layouts has been, let Audi take care of that. The classic, Lamborghini rear-wheel drive formula provides fans with a truly visceral and reckless sensation that an all-wheel layout simply cannot.
