Earlier this year, McLaren unveiled their MP4-X Formula One concept racer, which showcased the company’s forward thinking in terms of style and design. With its enclosed jet fighter-style cockpit, the MP4-X looks like something out of a science fiction film. McLaren, however, isn’t content with their concept car simply being a stylish look at the next generation of design. The company seems poised to change what people think is possible.
The idea from the British manufacturers is that their concept car, the MP4-X, represents the vast possibilities that the company is considering for their Formula One racecars. Everything from electric and solar power to a more integrated battery makes this racer look like the future of Formula One racing. While more energy efficient power doesn’t seem as futuristic in today’s world as it would have say, 20 years ago, the most exciting aspect of the proposed MP4-X is how McLaren claims it will be driven.
McLaren suggests that telepathic driving may be in the future for their high-performance racecars as they are currently working on technology that would allow electrical pulses from the driver’s brain to be interpreted by the car. Not only would the driver control the car with their mind, but the biometric suit will be able to monitor the current state of the driver, making the driver and the car more closely connected than ever. Furthermore, McLaren has also stated that the car’s body panels will be made of a unique alloy that can change shape and adjust to current drive conditions on the fly.
At this point, these ideas are still in their infancy, but they do represent the type of innovative, forward thinking that we’ve come to love from our favorite manufacturers. With so many incredibly exciting possibilities, the future for Formula One racing and high-performance driving, in general, is bright.
