Japanese car manufacturer, Subaru is well known for their efforts in the world of rally car racing, winning numerous championships before their eventual withdrawal from the World Rally Championships in 2008. Now, 8 years later, Subaru is setting out to prove they have what it takes to win on the track as they’ve officially signed on as the sponsor for one of the teams in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC). When Team BMR hits the track this coming spring, they’ll do so behind the wheel of a specially designed Subaru Levorg.
The Levorg that Team BMR will take to the BTCC won’t be an ordinary Subaru station wagon, far from it actually. It’s coming in fast with a turbocharged, direct-injected 2.0L engine and at least 300 horsepower. What will be interesting is seeing how the team at Subaru deals with the BTCC regulations dictating cars utilize a rear-wheel drive layout, as opposed to their own time-tested all-wheel drive system.
Subaru will need to work out their plans for their BTCC Levorg quickly if they want to beat out the rest of the competition this year. With its peers gearing up for victory in some of the best sports cars around, the Subaru Levorg will need to be at its best. With everything from the time-proven Honda Civic Type R, the sporty BMW 1 Series, and the sleek Mercedes-Benz A-Class in the field of competition, a win for Team BMR and their new Subaru Levorg certainly will not come easy.
