Acura's NSX Supercar

When it debuted at the 1989 Chicago Auto Show, Honda’s latest car, the NSX (marketed in North America as the Acura NSX), took the world of exotic cars by storm. It was the first mass-produced car to feature an all-aluminum body and utilized advanced aerodynamics that gave the car a look and style that more closely resembled an F-16 fighter jet. The fan favorite mid-engine sports car was the marquee piece in Honda’s lineup for 15 years before going out of production in 2005. Thankfully, fans can rejoice as the new NSX is here and it looks even better than ever.

First unveiled as the 2012 Acura NSX Concept, the new 2016 NSX retains its classic name but is now defined as the “New Sports eXperience” and definitely lives up to its name.

Honda’s successor to the original NSX is an advanced hybrid all-wheel drive sports car powered by a 3.5L twin-turbo V6 engine. What do you get from that engine? A total of 573 horsepower. Still, that isn’t the most impressive part of the NSX.

The most intriguing and innovative aspect of the new NSX is by far its hybrid design. The new Acura NSX utilizes a trio of electric motors in conjunction with its twin-turbo V6 to create a completely lag-free acceleration. Experienced turbo-engine aficionados may question whether the car’s turbo is even working. You can hear the turbo. You can feel the power flowing from the engine, and the NSX just takes off.

With a computerized software package so advanced that it rivals the Nissan GTR but without any of the turbo lag, the new Honda (Acura) NSX is certainly a supercar to keep an eye out for in the years to come.
