Gragson quickly announced to the fans and the entire NASCAR community that he belonged racing at this level of competition by placing the SPEEDVEGAS Toyota Tundra in the top 15 during Friday’s qualification. Track position is very important when competing at the one-mile oval that is known for its flat racing surface and very difficult passing zones. Drama struck early for the 18 yr old rookie who was hit from behind and sent for a spin less than 50 laps into the race. Gragson managed to keep off of the wall and remain on the lead lap allowing him to bring home a very respectable 16th place finish with the Richie Wauters Motorsports #18 Toyota Tundra completely intact.
Points leader and chase favorite William Byron suffered
engine failure with 9 laps remaining in the race and was eliminated from
championship contention. Kyle Busch Motorsports teammate Daniel Suarez took
over the lead and went on to score his first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series
victory. Byron’s shocking exit from the Championship 4 allowed teammate
Christopher Bell to claim a playoff berth. Bell will be joined by Johnny
Sauter, Matt Crafton and Timothy Peters with a chance to win the title next
Friday at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
